Capt Ken has been making Designer Bass Frog™ Original Series FROGs for over 30 years, continually improving the design & materials. Each Original Series FROG is a unique work of art. The Replicant Series was designed to provide a series of highly detailed exact copies of selected species. In April 2008, he featured the FROGs for sale on his website,www.floridakayakfishing.com, and he could not keep up with the demand, even though they were very expensive. In order to provide a more affordable FROG in quantities available for everyone, Capt Ken recently worked with a manufacturer for over two years to create the high quality mass manufactured Clone Series of Designer Bass FROGs™ and Designer Fishing Lures, LLC and www.bass-frog.com were born.
Capt Ken’s Original Series FROGs were featured in the Bassmaster Magazine’s September - October 2010 issue. These FROGs allow you to change hooks or change the FROG on your hook to a different color in seconds. You can change your hook when it wears out, or you can even use another hook of your choice if you prefer. This "cross-planar" elastic weed guard style hook allows you to adjust the angle, tension, and degree of protection to match the environment.
You can also use this hook alone, separately, or in combination with the Stinger Hook that attaches in seconds to the loop on the back end of the FROG.
The Stinger Hook You can add, remove or change to a larger Stinger Hook in seconds. The Stinger Hook is deadly at nailing bass that try to "short strike" or steal just the ends of the Skitter Legs as they "buzz" by, across the surface.
The Stinger Hook is surprisingly weedless because the FROG body runs interference for the hook points. It can be made even more weedless with the "Stabilizer Tubing" illustrated above that holds the hook set upright and horizontal with the water surface and above surface vegetation.
Texas Rigged Stinger Hook One great way to make the Stinger Hooks even more weedless is to add two thin noodles of soft plastic to form a "Tadpole Tail". It is basically a Texas-Rigged Stinger Hook. With the hook rigged in this manner, it becomes extremely weedless, and you then do not even need the Stabilizer Tubing shown above, and also, you do not need the "Leg Spreader," but both items can still be very useful. The Tadpole Tail can be used with either the Kicking Legs or the Skitter Legs, and they do not interfere with hook setting if you use thin pieces of soft plastic. The Tadpole Tail in the next photo was made from a Spinner Bait Trailer. Simply cut the two tail pieces off separately and attach them. You can also cut them off short to make them less obvious. The longer tails, however, actually look very attractive, especially with the Skitter Legs, and they enhance the action and appearance.
"Finesse FROG Fishing" and "Power FROG Fishing" with Skitter Legs Action #1 legs in both Styles are very valuable tools when fishing with great "finesse," and they are a good choice when using great stealth on calm surfaces, especially in small, quiet "pocket waters" in surface vegetation. Action #1 legs are the easiest to use, and they also make an excellent versatile multiple use leg set.
Action #2 legs in both Styles are valuable tools when covering large areas to "call the fish out" of heavy cover situations, especially on windy surfaces and thick vegetation. They are much noisier and more forceful swimmers. They are splashier on the surface and work well on a steady retrieve or stop and go fashion. They are especially effective when fished subsurface. Style #1- Action #2 makes an excellent "wakebait" when fished just under the surface, especially with the legs positioned "upright". Style #2 - Action #2 turns the FROG into an immediate diver when steadily retrieved and the FROG becomes a shallow diving "crankbait". It can even be fished weedless, diving through vegetation, and it is especially effective when fishing that way with the Stinger Hook.
The Skitter Leg / Stinger Hook Accessory Kit comes with a Stinger Hook already pre-assembled and ready to install on your FROG. A Leg Spreader and the Stabilizer Tubing are already attached.
